Calling butterflies to your garden in rainy season


I am working on to have a butterfly garden in my balcony, and I have started documenting my research in form of blogs. Since,there are different plants for blooms in summer\spring\winter\Rains , I have divided my research over seasons.


Summer is dull season for the butterfly lovers , especially if  you terrace/backyard garden. However, rains does not only bring respite from heat, but also bring joys to the eyes as lots of butterflies becomes active in this season.

Butterflies density increases so much that, i was able to spot 4-5 different types of butterflies in one hour of morning

Rain(July-Aug-2018) :

Spring was disappointment for my terrace garden as not many butterflies visited it,However, summer is going great , so far I have seen at least 3  different varieties of butterflies .
Here are list of flowers, which you can plant this summer to attract these beautiful creatures.

Portulaca:
Portulaca  is an exceptional flowering plant,this flower has attracted lots of butterflies in this rainy season. its very hardy plant and flower in abundance. Not only will it give a great look to garden , but also increases the butterfly count.






Bougainvillea 


Bougainvillea  was a sweet surprise in rainy season, butterflies come over it in search of Nectar. not only it enhanced by garden grace with its stark colors , but also provided food for butterflies.





Hibiscus:
Hibiscus or Gudhal , these are extremely useful plants, they provide dense foilage for birds , Acts as host plant for butterflies , and also provide nectar to them. Butterflies loves hibiscus so much that even if you hold the flower when butterfly is having nectar she will not move.


Saundrya roopa:
I am not sure about the name of this plant, i asked one gardener and he said its name is 'saundrya roopa', if you find its name , please mention in comment.
This plant is a great addition to my butterfly garden, it blooms throughout year , and attract many types of butterflies




Some key-points

1) Don't use any pesticide in garden
2) Always identify butterflies around your environment
3) Plant combination of Host + Nectar plant

How to call butterflies to your garden

If you have some space to grow plants , and   want to see butterflies  over them , this blog could give you a head start. The first serious thoughts about butterflies came around a year ago, when  i realized, that i have stopped seeing them too often, its like something which was very common in your life and you only started noticing it when it is gone!! Butterflies were the colorful part of my childhood.
