How can i call them ?

Butterflies deals with two types of plant

1) Nectar plant : for food

2) Host plant : for laying eggs

by planting combination of these two plants, you are providing them option to spend some time in your garden.

You can do this on your terrace garden or in your regular garden as well. I do not have privilege of a regular garden , so i planted them in container on my terrace.

Nectar plant for Eurema Hecabe :

1) Portulaca :

Portulaca  is an exceptional flowering plant, this flower has attracted Eurema hecabe  too often, one advantage of this flower is that they bloom from summer till start of winter and are  very hardy plants

Host plant for Eurema Hecabe :

1) छुईमुई  or mimosa pudica or sensitive plant or touch me not :
i am sure , everyone of us have seen this plant , or touched this plant which makes it leaves fold once we touch it.
Yes!! the same plant is a host plant for Eurema hecabe

2. Red Powder puff or Callindra haemtocephala:
we often have observed this beautiful shrub alike plant , planted in between divider of roads. This is also source plant for Eurema Hecabe

Eurema Hecabe Host plant :Red powder puff

by planting the combination of these plants  , i am sure you are going to attract some butterflies in your garden and additionally protecting these species from getting vanished.

One thing i would like to say is that, attracting butterflies to your garden is a work of patience, your wait could be longer, but be sure once they started visiting it , they would turn into frequent visitors.

Some important tips:

1) Plant them in cluster or kept the containers of both host and nectar  plant near each other

2) try to chose a position which is less windy and have some sunlight

However the summary of search was that these beautiful insects have very short life span, 15-20 days approx, and they are extremely sensitive to environment change. so I would try to keep it simple here, this blog is entirely based on my experiment(which is still going on) for calling butterflies on my terrace. Here we go!! Butterflies mainly deal with 2 types of p...
